Working together

The Vale of Glamorgan is really leading the way and at the forefront in embedding the Welsh Government's “Framework on embedding a whole-school approach to emotional and mental well-being.” The Local Authority and schools understand the importance and significance of this document both in terms of the values it wants to embed but also from a practical point of view. Schools are seeing an exponential rise in the numbers of young people and their families who are demonstrating mental health needs as a result of ACES and Developmental Trauma.

The When the Adults Change team are steeped in relational practice as teachers and leaders. Over the last 20 years, they have worked with thousands of schools who have systematically built on strong relationships, trauma-aware teaching and kindness to establish a preventative, compassionate approach to behaviour management that empowers educators to be both firm on behaviour and gentle on the child. We are inspired by the teaching practice we have seen in the Vale and we are delighted to be working with you.

Key Information & DATes

ONLINE COURSE:

The Online Course is designed to help develop the practical relational skills. The course is split into 3 core sections; 'What to Say', 'What to Do' & 'How to Be'. You will also find information and advice on how relational practice compliments the work you have done with TIS and find a number of resources that can be useful for Whole School training from bonus videos through to posters and other classroom resources.

The Online Course will be available to all schools in the Vale for the duration of the academic year 2023/2024.

For any Online Course information, please contact Clare using Bookings@WhenTheAdultsChange.com If you would like to access the Online Course in Welsh, please let Clare know.

SLT Coaching:

Our coaching sessions are hosted online and work directly with SLT to build capacity and provide training in systems, policy, change management and leadership.

In our work with the schools in the Vale, we have identified the number of coaching sessions that we think would be beneficial to the school. Every school is now invited to book their coaching sessions in with us so that we can build on the skills developed in the online course. All sessions will build upon the observations made during the Health check day.

You can book your sessions in with Hannah by emailing Hannah@WhenTheAdultsChange.com

ONGOING SUPPORT:

The local authority will be funding ongoing support for some of the schools in the Vale based on the level of need identified in the Behaviour Health Checks and the impact of both the Online Course and Online Training.

There are also opportunities for you to engage in additional training as an individual school or as a cluster of schools. Whether you are looking for INSET training, book orders or additional licenses for the online course, you can contact us to have a conversation.

We are also excited to be able to share 'When the Parents Change' and talk about how we expend relational practice beyond the school gates and into the homes we service.
